PURPOSE
 
The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the pediatric nursing care concepts that will enhance their ability to provide care for pediatric patients utilizing nursing principles (36.0).
 
COURSE DESCRIPTION
 
The student will be introduced to growth and development of the child from infancy to eighteen years, care of the hospitalized child, and common medical and surgical disorders of children of all ages.
 
SUMMARY OF UNITS:
 
Unit   I - Growth and Development and Health Promotion for the Pediatric Patient
 
Unit II - Basic Pediatric Nursing Care and Nursing Care of the Pediatric Patient with a Cardiovascular                  Disorder
 
Unit III – Nursing Care of the Pediatric Patient with a Hematologic, Immune, Neoplastic, Respiratory,                     Gastrointestinal, Genitourinary or Endocrine Disorder

OBSTETRICS

 

 

PURPOSE:     

 
The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to maternity and newborn nursing care concepts that will enhance their ability to provide care for the maternal and newborn patients utilizing nursing principles (35.0)
 
COURSE DESCRIPTION:    
 
This course will review reproductive structure and function (28.06), describe normal and complicated pregnancy, identify normal and complicated labor and delivery, describe normal and complicated postpartum as well as identify diagnostic tests, treatments and medications used in the maternal patient. Care of the normal neonate as well as complications the neonate will be discussed.
 
SUMMARY OF UNITS:
 
Unit   I - Introduction to Obstetrics, including a brief history.
                         Review of anatomy and physiology of reproductive systems.
                         Pregnancy and fetal development (antepartum) normal and
                         complicated.
Unit II - Nursing Care during labor and delivery (intrapartum),
 normal and complicated.
Unit III - Nursing care during the postpartum period, normal and
 complicated.
Unit IV - The nursing care of the neonate, normal and complicated.
