Gastrointestinal and Endocrinology Course


PURPOSE:     
 
The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to gastrointestinal and endocrine nursing care concepts that will enhance their ability to provide care for the patient with digestive and endocrine diseases and disorders utilizing nursing principles (34.12, 34.13)
 
COURSE DESCRIPTION:    
 
This course will review digestive and endocrine structure and function (28.02), identify signs and symptoms of diseases/disorders of the digestive and endocrine system (34.01), identify diagnostic tests and medications used in the treatment of digestive and endocrine diseases/disorders (34.02, 34.03), and identify nutritional needs of patients with digestive and endocrine diseases/disorders (34.04)

Unit 1: Gastrointestinal A & P Review; Diseases and Disorders of the Upper Digestive System
Unit 2: Diseases and Disorders of the Lower Digestive System and Accessory Organs
Unit 3: Endocrine A & P Review; Diseases and Disorders of the Endocrine System
Unit 4: Diabetes Mellitus and Hypoglycemia
